Underoath W/ Saosin, The Devil Wears Prada, and The Famine

Ok so heres the deal. I got caught up at bar trivia and wasnt able to make it to the show until after the devil wears prada and the famine played, but i have seen the devil wears prada before and i know those dudes are solid live so i wasnt too bummed.

I was supposed to be on the guest list for saosin but as usual with the roseland my name got cut from the list at the last second without checking with anyone or alerting us. so i get down there and i miss the last half of saodin which i was super bummed about cause i havent seen those dudes since the first taste of chaos tour way back in the day.

So i sat there with the lady at roll call trying to convince me that there was no way i was going to get in on account of everything being sold out and they would “Never” let me in no mater what.

well underoaths tour manager came up front and i was like “dude. i got cut?” and he was all like “for reals?” and i was like does bread go on butter. and then me and ryan “our other reviewer” were in. we went to the balcony cause after you turn 18 you would have to be an idiot to not go to the bar at a show thats sold out. so many of those hair cut kids were bombing around that floor like little pimps. it was laughable.

we get up stairs and sure enough a bunch more kids are up there. turns out that there were so many kids that they turned half of the bar area into a mcdonalds play place. all the seats were taken by where we were and all these 16 year olds were standing up and blocking our vision. but no. you cant hit minors or its battery and assult and a 7 year sentence (thanks measure 11). so we get to the half that was actually a bar and sure enough the two exact middle front seats are available. hell yeah it was between two random dads at the show that were pissed off as hell that there kids dragged em there but damn if we didnt get those seats with little hassle.

Underoath was so strong live. those floridians are able to pull off their album work live and it never ceases to impress. i am pretty damned lucky to have gotten to see underoath live through their last three incarnations(albums) and they only get more impressive live.

Their light show was amazing with sound of separation artwork and fluorescent light rods affixed on paper volcanoes.

Spencer pulled out a guitar and joined in the strumming action lending to a 3 guitar assault from the band.

They played such a solid set list with a good mix of album songs but they didnt play anything prior to they’re only chasing saftey which was kind of a bummer cause their 3 releases prior to that were real solid. its just funny to hear them go were going to play some old stuff and hear “A Boy Brushed Red Living in Black and White”. I guess most of the kids would get offended if some of the songs on “The Changing Of Times” got in their heads.

Yeah they played the encore and thank god they played “Too Bright To See, Too Loud To Hear” as well as “Writing On The Walls” but i was so shocked to see them NOT play “Reinventing Your Exit”. Its like going to go see The Scorpions and them not playing “Rock You Like A Hurricane”. I’ve seen it and their set was still awesome and they are probably tired as hell of that song so its understandable.

Next time Underoath come to town: GO SEE THEM.

  1. I love Underoath live and choose to rock out on the floor instead of hanging with what I hear are the cooler kids at the bar. My guess is the bands had more fun playing for us.
