The Scenic: Find Yourself Here
  • Find Yourself Here

So first off any idiot that calls this a pop punk band needs to have a face to face with Jason Vorhees at camp crystal lake. There is absolutley no punk aspect to this band. Hell to even call these dudes pop rock is a disservice to the genre of rock. Creed has more balls than these dudes and that is saying a lot, but its the gods honest truth (still think these dudes are better than creed though). It all just breaks down to this being a pop band and there is nothing wrong with that. there are plenty of good pop bands active today. kay kay and his weathered underground, the format, forgiven durden, and respective labelmates 1997.

About the record? well its just so damn lackluster. No real surprises or moments where you double take on a riff. Its all pretty basic distortionless clean guitars over a mid tempo dance beat while the dude from rory tires to swoon you, and this is where i go ape shit cause rory was damn better than this. They had what felt like self worth while it seems like The scenic feel comfortable being a weightless sub par act drifting through a genre that will have no lasting impressions on anyone. in 10 years people will remember Thursday, Blink 182, From Autumn To Ashes, and Circa Survive, but nobody will be able to tell you who The Scenic is.

Its just a damn shame that this band could do nothing but construct half hearted art to attach to Rory’s legacy. A lot of eyes where on this vocalist to Stand up with titans such as Jesse Lacey and Adam Lazarra but with this offering he lets a lot of those eyes look the other way.

I’m sure this band will have a somewhat strong small following for a year or so and land on some rather “large for the time” tours, but there is just no staying power here. The scene is going to be hard for The Scenic if they cant pull off one hell of a live show cause on disc/tape/vinyl/mp3 they just don’t have a ice cubes chance in hell of anything more than another lp before they self destruct or become overshadowed by the next big thing.
