However, where Maximillian Colby compulsively builds certain phrases and tones, Sleepytime Trio is more content to get to the crux of the matter, crystallizing drawn-out crescendos into urgent, furious sound clips. Ever teetering on the verge of complete meltdown, Sleepytime Trio's sound is controlled yet spastic, an amalgam of twisted metal, hoarse vocal cords, and churning rumbles.

The quartet has been a defining force in shaping the Lovitt label; bands such as Engine Down, Bats & Mice, The Rah Bras, and Milemarker are direct off-shoots of Sleepytime Trio and have gone on to their own critical and popular acclaim. To find a truly rudimentary sonic element or aesthetic to any of these bands, one needs to look no farther than Sleepytime Trio. The group truly captured the essence of catharsis in their songs, pieces of reckless candor and beauty.

Memory Minus serves as a definitive document of everything the band ever recorded plus live tracks from a show in Germany. The album art and layout are new, and all songs were recently remastered by Chad Clark at Silver Sonya Studio for optimum sound quality and crispness.

Tags: Record Review, Sleepytime Trio, Lovitt Records, Emocore, Punk
